인턴쉽은 크게 돈을 받고 일하는 유급인턴쉽과 돈을 받지 않고 일하는 무급인턴쉽을 나누어 볼 수 있습니다. 두가지 인턴쉽의 특징을 살펴보면 유급인턴쉽의 경우 급여를 받을 수 있다는 장점이 있는 반면, 대부분이 호텔, 레스토랑, 상점에서의 서빙이나 판매 또는 단순 노동업무라는 단점이 있고, 무급인턴쉽의 경우 급여를 받을 수 없다는 단점이 있는 반면, 대부분이 사무직종으로 한국으로 돌아와서 취업을 준비할 때 좋은 이력이 될 수 있다는 장점이 있습니다. 하지만 이런 무급인턴쉽의 경우도 어느정도 이름있는 회사에서 일은 할 수 있지만 아주 전문적인 분야에서 일하기는 어렵다는 단점이 있었는데요, 캐나다 토론토와 밴쿠버에 센터를 운영하고 있는 SEC(Study English in Canada)와 그 자매 컬리지인 UCCBT(Upper Career College of Business & Technology)가 이러한 문제점을 싹~ 해결했습니다.
